Review :Now this is a release I was looking forward to!
Well, Aftershock play the "emotional metallic hardcore" style I've been ranting on about in a lot of these reviews, and they play it bloody well too. My first impressions of this CD was that it was a little too 'out there' and sounded disjointed, but a few more listens certainly helped me get over the complexities on show here. The vocalist obviously went to the same school as the singers from Zao and Acacia, with his guttural (beyond Death Metal) growl, but as I love both these bands then this is a major plus point. Musically it is intricate and melodic metal with (surprise, surprise) plenty of acoustic passages thrown in, but also so real heavy grooving parts.
I really like this CD, but it does require some patience to get into, they say the best things come to those who wait.
