The fourth release by Varg Vikernes (aka Count Grishnack) on Misanthropy Records. This one-man black metal phenomenon's most recent recording of songs written in 1991 & 1993 (pre-incarceration) shows a desire to stretch his musical creativity. While the second song "Jesus Tod" (destined to be a classic, no doubt) is typical of Burzum's distinctive raging style of BM, there are other styles included that are sure to
surprise & enchant! The title is taken from the book published by Blood Axis, France. The artwork is elaborate with lyrics in English, German, & Norwegian. Essential, of course!

Burzum's still
excellent, very essential black metal music released on Misanthropy Records (1993, chronologically the third full-length recording, & Misanthropy's 2nd. Burzum disc). The compositions still rage & rock(!), but a maturity shows through with the expansion of sounds including melancholy, dark-ambient atmospheres & regal instrumentals (along the lines of Mortiis); this album may hold the widest appeal & as with all Burzum's music, is highly recommended! The title translates to "What Once Was".
