At the birth of Ebonylake, each person involved swore to the next that their devotion to this unique gothic Avant-Garde Black Metal movement would be absolute. ''As Ghosts We Dance In Thrashing Seas'' was our first ever recording and in turn it found praise from many for the ghastly, abstract qualities it displayed. This recording quickly secured a deal with Cacophonous Records, and has now culminated in the recording of our debut album ''On The eve Of The Grimly Inventive'' (March 1999).
And so to the ever shining lake of inspiration; it has been the painted wonder of the pre-Raphaelite Masters such as John William Waterhouse and the abstract works of Reon Argondian. Musically we worship the likes of Greig, Wojchich Kilar, Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninov, together with a distant passion for Extreme Metal, i.e.: Black Metal, Gothic Darkwave, and atmospheric Death Metal. Masters of the macabre such as Sheridan le Fanu, Lord Byron and Bram Stoker have also created literary works of immeasurable darkness and our first ever piece of work ''The Amethyst Lung Concerto'' was eternally dedicated to them.
But the truly haunting essence of our music comes from a more personal story; guitarist Ophelius and drummer Sighmon W. lived for 10 years in premises well known in their locality as a Haunted House; violent poltergeist activities were coupled with frequent visitations, and the result left some of us emotionally and physically scarred. So unlike most of today's artists conjuring up imaginary ghost stories, ours are very real. And upon such experiences this short story is based...
''Wait quietly for your time to speak, for when you do, my friend, it will be like the blast of an amethyst storm,'' said the voice as he walked the burning amber, the tide caressing his feet, easing his suffering.
''But why is it they wrongly throw the linnen seeds before my step?'' snapped the boy.
''Wrongly?'' replied the voice, ''they are not fools but prophets.''
Then silence rules for a while.
''Come'', said the voice, ''I have something for you!''
The boy opened his eyes, he had no recollection of travelling but his feet were sore. He stood in the grounds of an old chateau with the most ghastly things at hand, headless swans flew to and fro, dancing amidst the flowers and trees.
''So I must prove myself then?'' said the boy.
''You said you grew without fear, then recite the words that you wrote the night before last,'' replied the voice. The boy then positioned himself on the rock, gallantly but with rats in his stomach, and there he performed his words loudly and in a most exquisite voice.
''Quietly as it began, spilling and then forming; this rain is so strange, emerald I think,'' continued the boy and all the creatures and life around him were still and became his audience. As he approached the last of his words he found deep within himself something grim and beautiful. A frenzy of ghosts at play maybe? But something of such immense intensity that there he did faint.
He awoke on t
