The talented duo of Weno & Anna, from
Finland, presenting trance-inducing atmospheric metal with an epic, &
sometimes gradiose or heraldic edge. Darkstyle are adept at exploiting
simplistic & repetitive melodies with ambient Power-riffage/grind &
etherial whispers (excellent-- NEVER "sung"!) to grab YOU, the listener,
into a hypnotic groove reminiscent of flowing, sinuous mesmerizations of
Cobra snake-charmers! A strong, uncompromising personal vision realized to

Current Metal Blade stablemates with their debut album on Adipocere Records (from 1993). Classic Doom patterned after the U.K. scene (at that time revolving around the early albums by My Dying Bride & Paradise Lost). Violin & keyboards straight out of My Dying Bride's "Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium" & "...As the Flower Withers" releases; melodic, emotional & searing guitar leads/riffs straight out of Paradise Lost "Gothic" album. Epic, melancholy, but grandiose Extreme Metal with brutal deathish vocals purveying & expanding upon the original U.K. sound. A sparkling, immaculate production worthy of royalty.

Original import version on Displeased Records, Holland (hey, at cheap domestic price even!), of ultra-romantic neo-classical doomy, dark metal. Celestial Season (recently interviewed in ILL Literature mag #11) feature two conservatory-trained female violinists augmenting a heavy-duty line-up of two guitars, bass, drums, & a low, growly (think early My Dying Bride) vocalist (who has since been replaced by a less doom-oriented singer). This is like the perfect blend of "Paranoid" era Black Sabbath, In the Woods, & My Dying Bride! Occasional use of wah-wah peddle on the guitars give the band a retro-psychedelic feel (happily, they don't overdo it) akin to the bands on Kissing Spell's series of early '70s metal re-issue albums. Check out their epic doom reworking of Ultravox's classic "Vienna," alone totally worth the price of admission!
