Whistle & Bodhran War Drum. *Century Media info says:
What do you get when you add Pagan warriors, Celtic Folk-Metal and five
Irish lads following the road down the Druid path? You get one of the most
original sounds to enter the music scene in years. Those responsible are
known simply as Waylander.
Waylander originate from the lush, green hills of Ireland, and despite the
desolate cry of inactivity there, the band have found a way to pass the
time while creating a fresh, new outlook to their roots. With influences
including the likes of Slayer, Skyclad, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and
Horselips (an Irish folk band), Waylander belt out a totally original sound
comparable to no one band.
Formed in 1993 by brothers Ciaran and Dermott O'Hagan, they began on a
relentless search to bring together the message of Celtic mythology and
battles of times past, sandwiched between massive guitar riffs and an
intense vocal style. After trying out countless drummers at a local youth
center, it looked hopeless until Denis Ferran, a friend of vocalist Ciaran,
jumped behind the kit just for fun. As he began to pelt out complex rhythms
with ease, he surprised everyone (including himself), and turned out to be
the missink link that Waylander's style had cried out for. Dennis
originally practiced on the pots and pans donated by Ciaran and Dermott's
mother until more suitable equipment was available. After parting with
their first bass player, Michael Proctor jumped in to fill the now-complete
rhythm section.
Ciaran, who had been dreaming of a particular musical sound for nearly
eleven years, felt that the band were still lacking a particular element.
In order to stray a bit from the metal "norm" and achieve a sound truly
their own, the band stumbled across Martin MacCormick, who was skilled at
playing Bodhran War-Drums and tin whistle (a traditional Irish folk
instrument), and was immediately initiated into the clan. After grabbing
Century Media's attention in late 1997, Waylander worked overtime on new
material. In January of 1998, the quintet entered Stage One Studios with
producer Andy Classen (Rotting Christ, Holy Moses) and belted out eleven
eye-opening tunes, including a 2000-year-old Irish folk piece, "King Of The
Fairies". Many have tried to cover this ancient tune, but only Waylander
have been able to reproduce it in such a way as to keep the original
meaning intact but with a modern twist.
Waylander's debut album "Reawakening Pride Once Lost" will take you on a
journey through the past twenty centuries of a country's musical history
while keeping you riveted by its grasp of modern metal.

Dirk Thurisch -- Lead Vocals; Bernd Aufermann --
Guitars / Vocals; Steven Banks --Keyboards; Frank Banks -- Bass / Vocals; &
Dirk Assmuth -- Drums. *Century Media info says:
Angel Dust sprang from the promising underground band Overdose in the
summer of 1984 featuring Dirk Assmuth on drums, Frank Banks on bass/backing
vocals, Andreas Lohrum on guitar, and Roman Keymer on guitar and vocals.
With their then-up-to-date sound (a mixture of Metallica, Exodus and
Destruction) and a small deal with A.M. Disaster Records (also home to
Darkness, fellow-German Speed/Thrashers), Angel Dust's debut album "Into
The Dark Past" caught the Speed Metal boom in the mid-'80s and received
brilliant reviews in Germany, Poland and Japan. The record sold more than
20,000 copies in Germany alone! To take some of the workload off of Keymer,
Angel Dust hired S.L. Coe to perform lead vocals for the band's live
performances, resulting in the departure of Keymer and Lohrum. Not letting
the situation interfere with their musical vision, Assmuth and Banks
quickly found two new members from the local Dortmund scene, Stefan K.
Nauer and Vinnie Lynn, who fit perfectly into the Angel Dust sound.
The band's second album "To Dust You Will Decay" was recorded with the new
line-up and not surprising, to excellent reviews! In the following months
Angel Dust did several tours and played a number of shows with bands such
as Blind Guardian, Tankard, Paradox, Sodom and Destruction! A sold-out tour
throughout Europe with Running Wild in January of 1989 became a career
highlight for Angel Dust, whose end came in the fall of that same year due
to internal and outside problems.
In 1991 Frank joined the melodic Speed Metal band Crows, together with
Bobby Schottkowski on drums, Bernd Kost on guitar (both currently in
Sodom!), and vocalist Leczek Szpigiel (who later joined Scanner). Crows
recorded one album entitled "The Dying Race". More than eight years after
the Angel Dust split, Frank and Dirk decided to reform in early 1997
together with Frank's brother Steven Banks on keyboards and Bernd
Aufermann on guitar. When singer Dirk Thurisch joined in August of that
year, the problem of finding a vocalist who fits into Angel Dust's melodic
sound was solved. After doing several demos with new material, one of the
tracks found its way onto the Unerhrt sampler which is supplemented in the
European magazine Rock Hard. The reactions from fans as well as record
companies were overwhelming, and Century Media inked the band to a
multi-release deal. Between February and April 1998, Angel Dust recorded
their Century Media debut "Border Of Reality" in Hagen's Woodhouse Studio
together with Wolfgang Stach (Guano Apes) and Siggi Bemm. Although the band
certainly has elements in common with power metal acts like Helloween and
Blind Guardian, "Border Of Reality" has a much darker feel to it, and some
of Angel Dust's major influences (Savatage, Metallica, Dream Theatre, Deep
Purple, Rush, & Judas Priest) show through in the songwriting.
