From the ancient times, deep inside the dark forests of Spain comes CARCHAROTH!!!! Although they are new in the Pagan Black Metal scene it seems that their brand new album 'Desolated Battlefields'... Just after 4 years since their first demo 'My Father Was A Wolf' (on Battle Hymn Records, USA) their new masterpiece came to spread the unholy disease!!!
To begin with, 'Desolated Battlefields' as a whole seems to be a very a complete album… The incredibly intense feeling of atmosphere and ambience is strengthened by the abundance of sound, speech and music samples throughout the album, adding a new element and blending perfectly with the spirit of the music. The production is 'suitably harsh', meaning that it's not overworked and clinical (which would ruin the spirit of the songs) but you don't have to make your ears bleed to understand what's going on. The guitars are thick, the bass is perceivable, the drums sound very natural and raw. and the flutes are given the right level in the mix.
From beginning to end this release is nothing short of an experience in itself. Every song is backed up by heavy-laden atmosphere and is augmented by melancholic melodies played at a doom pace only to speed up and blast the skin off your torso with it's frosty bitterness and shrill hatred whilst harsh, delay-heavy vocals will tear your very soul!!!!!
