DODSFERD "Fucking Your Creation" CD, Moribund Cult (release date: Jan. 30, 2007) * Text of one-sheet info written by Nathan Birk: "I am a nihilst by philosophy! All music and lyrics are written by Wrath, in total Solitude! Humans are the cancer of this world! DODSFERD has to do with my everlasting pain, due to the hypocritical leeches who live amongst me! DODSFERD doesn't follow any kind of trends!" So says DODSFERD mastermind Wrath, and he means it. In fact, he's DEADLY serious about his anti-trend intent. Because of this era of decrepit, bargain-bin drum-machines and emasculated, superficial 'distortion', every last loser wants to join the black metal scene with his very own 'one-man' band -- a kindergarten club for everyone to feel 'welcome' and 'special' when, in reality, they are anything but remarkable. It is a seething hatred for such complacent social-oriented sheep in wolves' clothing that drives Greece's DODSFERD. And it is this seething hatred which renders 'Fucking Your Creation' a veritable knife in the heart of those sheep. Taking cues from scene such legends as Burzum, Moonblood, Satanic Warmaster, and Nargaroth, DODSFERD aims for the true isolationist aesthetic of black metal: single-minded and even selfish, self-sufficient and even arrogant, but never sacrificing (deadly) quality for want of suitable comrades. A lone-wolf DODSFERD is, and he suitably creates his own philosophical / physical soundtrack with his Moribund debut, a dirty 'n' diseased monolith of epic, daresay rockin' proportions: 'Fucking Your Creation' very literally does that. The roots of mainman Wrath's wrath date back to 2001, but "due to several problems, fucking human cancer, lack of faith and help," he recorded the first DODSFERD demo, 'Kruzifixxion of Human Disgust', at the end of 2003. Various sick 'n' unreleased demos followed allegedly "recorded under strange perverted behaviour." By 2006, noted label BlackMetal.com released DODSFERD's first official CD, "Desecrating the Spirit of Life", which amended as a bonus, the aforementioned 'Kruzifixxion...' demo. One-man band DODSFERD is the project of Wrath and "Fucking Your Creation" is sure to be mentioned as one of the year's best black metal albums. Talk about a man that takes the hellish spew of the early Norwegian masters seriously! The album has got it all: seething nihilism, monstrous black 'n' roll, and definitive, old-school black metal atmosphere. And it sounds great too! Raw as hell with a natural drum sound, vicious guitar tone, and all the sonic sootiness you can handle. "Not a second of the 38-minute running time is wasted and each song is distinct, while still fitting perfectly within the overall album framework. The second and third tracks in particular (after the bone-chilling intro "Die in Pain"), "?ĶAnd Disease was Spread in a Matter of Seconds" and "I was Welcome only By Death" are most worthy of note and wholly deserving of praise. Clocking in at 11 and 12 minutes, respectively, the tracks offer blackened DARKTHRONE grooves, vintage black metal guitar harmonies, and Wrath's hair-raising screech vocals. Both the title track and "Wrath" are blood-spattered and filled with dread, the latter especially disconcerting due to the Wrath's screams of agony over a basic (and buzzing) guitar line and crackling feedback; it is the height of misery. The title track also boasts a nasty riff and an aura that is sonically equivalent to the scraping of metal against bone. Throw in some prime samples, especially the Vincent Price bits, and you've got one hell of a black metal album. "If black metal is about all feeling (and it is), then 'Fucking Your Creation' goes well beyond a vague sense of horror and into the kind of bodily possession that most have only read about. GANZMORD/DODSFERD - DOOM AND DESTROY Two great one-man (essentially) acts join forces to spew ferocious hate and disgust on one formidable split. The grim and minimalist assault of Ganzmord is just one more reason to give American black metal all the deserving respect it has gotten since the millennium with its menacing fuck-off to all loser American bands trying to whore out the music for the sake of scoring whores. What better way to convey utter animosity than with the most sincere self-absorbed pride? Greece's Dodsferd has been making a bit of a name for themselves (well, himself) lately with his recent signing to Moribund. Thrashy and heavily influenced by early punk, Dodsferd's attack of hateful torture and cruelty is certainly leaps and bounds different than better-known polished Greek black metal the likes of Necromantia and Rotting Christ (who practically became "Rotting Christina" after "A Dead Poem"). With enough malevolence to become significant movers and shakers, these are definitely two bands to watch for in the future! (FA) BLACKMETAL.COM RECORDS www.blackmetal.com FA c/o Dirt Culture webzine Ganzmord returns in 2007 with another malicious piece of callous American black metal misanthropy, paired alongside the work of Greek black metal solo act Dodsferd. Just like all previous material from this dark entity known as Ganzmord we are dealing with some very under produced mostly brutal black metal here with some ambient, doom, and drony parts as well. Even as Ganzmord's music is raw and brutal there are still plenty of melodic riffs, which is something that is sorely lacking in most if not all current raw black metal bands. Honestly though I hate even using the term 'raw black metal' when describing Ganzmord simply because I think that term conjures up images of old Darkthrone right away and personally Ganzmord doesn't sound anything like Darkthrone to me. Another aspect that continues to impress me about Ganzmord is the vocals. The vocals this guy unleashes are plainly some of the most impressive tortured screams you'll ever hear. Try and imagine a mix between Ihsahn's vocals on the Emperor demos mixed with someone like Silenius from Abigor and you'll have some idea as to how intense his screams are. This is another thing where so many black metal bands fail today. They just want to sound like Nocturno Culto rather tha n forming their own identity like Ganzmord has. As for the actual songs on this release I honestly can say they are really impressive and may in fact be some of his best songs composed. 'Under a Shadow of Evil' is filled with interesting guitar work the whole way through and vocals that absolutely send shivers through my body as I hear them pass through my speakers. I can't imagine Ganzmord's throat feels too comfortable after recording music. I also found 'Grim to the Grave' to be excellent. This one opens with a spoken sample and then shifts to a quiet acoustic melody with a mostly indistinguishable spoken passage and then the words 'there all dead' being repeated over and over again, each time being screamed even more intensely. The other three songs mostly carry on in the same vein as Under a Shadow of Evil and are excellent the whole way through. If for some reason you haven't heard this band yet, then this split release is certainly a fine place to start, and remember try as they may no other current raw black metal pretender holds a fucking candle to Ganzmord! The second half of this split comes from the Greek solo act Dodsferd lead solely by Wrath. My first experience with this band was last year with the debut 'Desecrating the Spirit of Life,' which I found to be really just an average black metal release. These newer songs though took me by surprise. I should also mention that although four songs are listed for Dodsferd only three actually appear on the album. At least that's the case with the version I have. These three songs are quite good though and in fact each song is a different type of black metal. 'Dead Amongst Us' sounds like something from Bathory's debut or 'The Return' albums, so great old school sounding black metal here. 'Dodsferd' however is a more lengthy (almost 9 minutes) song in the slow misanthropic vein of Xasthur and similar artist, while 'Pale Forest Sing for the Dead' features both the sound of the previous song, but with some much brutal/raw tendencies. When the dust has cleared and the bodies lie dormant 'Doom and Destroy' is clearly a very enjoyable split release from these two black metal musicians. And as I had mentioned earlier this would definitely be a fine place to start if you haven't heard Ganzmord or Dodsferd before.
