Yes, it plays music just like a black vinyl LP, it is not just for decoration, though many people do not play them, they collect them only.

VINYL LP A VINYL LP is made of vinyl and is played on a TURNTABLE similar to this one (only a lot bigger): It can be a 12-inch VINYL LP, or 10-inch VINYL LP. It is usually black vinyl but can also come in a wide variety of colors, known as "colored vinyl".

EP An "EP" is a 7-INCH VINYL record, usually black vinyl but can come in a wide variety of colors, is commonly referred to as a "single" and usually contains 2 to 4 songs (1 or 2 on each side) and is played on a TURNTABLE similar to this one (only a lot bigger):

CD in JEWEL CASE:

COMPACT DISC (CD) A COMPACT DISC (commonly referred to as a "CD") is a round 5 inches in diameter disc, much smaller than a 12-inch vinyl LP. CDs are made of mostly plastic that has digital code in it that is read by a laser from the hole in the middle outward, can hold up to 72 minutes of music, and normally is housed in a clear plastic "jewel case", and is played in a CD PLAYER similar to the deck and portable ones pictured below (only a whole lot bigger):

MCD in JEWEL CASE:

MCD MCD means MiniCD but it is the same size as a standard 5-inch CD. It is called a "MCD" because it usually contains less minutes of music than a standard CD - usually under 30 minutes of music. A MCD is made of mostly plastic that has digital code in it that is read by a laser, normally housed in a clear plastic "jewel case", and is played in a CD PLAYER similar to the deck and portable ones pictured below (only a whole lot bigger):

DIGIPAK CD A DIGIPAK CD refers more to the packaging the disc is in, rather than the disc itself which is exactly the same size as a standard CD. It is called a "DIGIPAK" because it is housed not in a plastic "jewel case" but in a printed cardboard DIGIPAK. It may or may not come with a booklet either attached to the DIGIPAK or separate from it. There are several DIGIPAK styles. CASSETTE A CASSETTE refers to a cassette tape which consists of magnetic tape in a plastic shell housing that you play, and manually rewind and fast forward. It is played in a CASSETTE PLAYER similar to the deck and portable ones pictured below (only a whole lot bigger):
