Atmospheric METAL. There will be little
introduction needed
for Emperor's Ihsahn and it is indeed he, along with his wife Ihriel and
Lord Pz (of Source Of Tide), that make up this incredible outfit. Combining
the operatic vocal technique of the three members alongside the ferocious
metal assault that lies at the heart of their art, PECCATUM have created
something which could even be described as, dare I say it, original.
"Strangling From Within" itself walks a fine musical line between the
worlds of neo-classical, and avant-garde metal. This album simply has to be
heard to be believed!, it will be one of THE albums of 1999!!! Peccatum was
founded in early 1998 based on the ideas of Ihriel. She was more or less
the founder of the band. She did not have to search very far in order to
get the band established as Ihsahn is her husband and Lord PZ her brother.
The band was established in order to create music for the sake of art and
to combine the three artistic forces into one. We all possess a sincere
belief in art in general.

"Our first album "Strangling From Within" can therefore best be described
as a result of the artistic mingling between three separate & distinct
individuals. The title of the album reflects the major concept of the
album. The album itself was recorded between the months of April to
September '98 at Ihsahn's own studio Symphonique. We have all contributed
equally in different ways during this period of time. Ihsahn has written
all the music for the album with inspiration and guidance from Ihriel's
lyrics. Peccatum takes great care in making the lyrics, music and vocals
into one unit in order to achieve the intended atmosphere and feeling. Each
voice carries its own emotion and this is used deliberately throughout the
album to create wholeness. As for the members of the band themselves,
Ihsahn will hardly need further introduction due to his work in Emperor.
The two other members of the band are not well known at all in the metal
scene, but
are nevertheless two equal contributors for Peccatum. Both being from a
family with professional musicians, they are actually not unknown within
the musical world at all. Lord PZ and Ihriel are together with Ihsahn all
classically trained vocalists. All members are still undertaking classical
training to further expand the depth of feeling and emotion that they can
convey with the voice."
