Two impressive songs of hard-driving thrash from the pioneers of Mesopotamian/Assyrian Black Metal! Melechesh (from Jerusalem, Israel) cast off any evi dence of the Judeo-Christian tradition commonly associated with the "holy lands" to burst forth with decidedly Satanic/Pagan extreme-metal that is sure to win many followers. "The Siege of Lachish" on side A blends old school thrash with both grim vocals & Gregorian war chants (akin to the Viking Metal singing of Bathory, Enslaved, & Einherjer), mixed innovatively with Oriental (Middle-Eastern) melodies for a stirring, anthemic punch. "Malek Al Nar" on side B presents a more Nordic attack with a guitar sound straight out of Bathory's "The Return of...", add atmospheric keyboards & harsh vocals that bear favorable comparisons to Emperor, Satyricon, & Marduk.

Turn this up WAY LOUD! This sounds great at high volumes where every nuance & frequencies of the grindy, but melodic guitars ring & shine through; along with the furious, racing beats, rumbling bass, & shrieking vocals. Is this the Middle-Eastern Emperor? The Assyrian Dissection? The Mesopotamian Cradle of Filth? The best from all these great bands: Norwegian cold & black-ice atmosphere, Swedish melodicism, heavy/deathish, majestic & intricate-- sometimes the Middle Eastern melodies confirm my desc ription of "Belly Dance Speed Thrash-Metal"... highly recommended, of course! *(Recorded in the U.S.A.)
