"Season of the Dead" was a landslide release from one of the most ancient
Death Metal groups: Necrophagia. Even today in 1998, this album has stood
the test of time & remains as one of the most innovative & ground-breaking
releases ever! It is still accepted in the brutal underground Death Metal
genre & has inspired legions of today's successful musical artists like
Emperor, Mayhem, or Christ Inversion(?). These & literally hundreds of
others currently expand on a foundation helped set by Necrophagia.
Originally first appearing ten years ago, "Season of the Dead" was one of
the first Death Metal recordings lucky enough to be issued on the newly
marketed CD format. Still, the preferred format in it's glorious heydey
were LPs & cassettes, which were mainly issued by the label (New
Renaissance) & quickly sold out! The demand for "Season of the Dead" sales
did not stop, but the label's production of the release did, forcing the
album to disappear from retail shelves around 1989.
Years later, people still talk about "Season of the Dead" & it's
availability on CD. The band still receives fan mail & requests for lyric
sheets & autographs almost a decade since its birth! Something had to be
done to remind people from where true Death Metal came. Red Stream was
again chosen by Necrophagia mastermind Killjoy, who suggested a re-issuing
of "Season of the Dead" on CD. Not only for the re
ason that people still
want it, but also in celebration of a newly reformed & more brutal than
ever Necrophagia in 1997! The entire design of the CD was revamped &
improved; missing lyrics were added, & then "Season of the Dead" was
digitally remastered for heightened listening experience!
Necrophagia was truly ahead of their time! Red Stream also chose to
document this fact with their very first CD release: Necrophagia's "Death
is Fun", a compilation of pre-"Season of the Dead" studio demo material.
