06/22/2007: "News About New DARKTHRONE F.O.A.D. ALBUM!"

* Positive comments about LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH from blabbermouth.net's peanut gallery:

"These guys are great." -- Tjoltjgar

"Maybe the best live Black Metal band in Cali. -- I saw them in SF and they were completley brutal. Even though my girl and I almost had our heads crushed by a mic stand being swung like a broadsword, we would not flee. They live up to the strange name, this is not pouty suicidal blackmetal." -- EVO_SANDOR

"The warriors of LSOD are tried and true... The songs are solid and quite an enjoyable listen; given this was their first complete album, next time expect them to come back with a more refined presentation... The important thing is they have the right ideas, regardless of whence the inspiration came. This is not a group of wannabe kids making a band -- Elders are involved, who know themselves and know METAL. We owe them that respect. Next time, production quality will not be an excuse for haters to criticize this band. Look up their shows on YouTube if you still doubt; LSOD has the makings of greatness. Sunoij!" -- Geikokujo

"Fear these men! - The dark dismal tinge that sounds like it was recorded in a lost WWII bunker riddled with shells and bones only adds to the blackness. This album should be feared like that dark enchanted evening you made horrible love to that goddess with no face that still manges to tear flesh as you scream in bloody ecstasy. There is no doubt these monsters will haunt us with more brutality. And I have one thing to say to that... BRING IT ON!!!" -- Blackisblack

~ IMMORTAL: New York City Show Sold Out ~

Three weeks in advance, IMMORTAL's July 13, 2007 concert at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill has officially sold out (1,014 tickets sold as of presstime). Only around 200 tickets are still available for the July 15, 2007 show at the Avalon in Los Angeles, California via Ticketmaster and EnterTheVault.com.

After 13 successful years as one of the pioneers of black metal, IMMORTAL disbanded in 2003 with a legacy of seven full-length albums, including the 2002 milestone, "Sons of Northern Darkness". Following a long hiatus, the band decided to enter the live battlefield again.

"I needed a break," Abbath explained. "I think we all did! We were simply burnt out, and there was no point in continuing. We had a Norwegian tour booked, and had performed at some great festivals both in the U.S. and Europe, but it just didn't feel right any longer."

In the meantime, drummer Horgh toured with Sweden's death metal masters HYPOCRISY and released the "Virus" album, while Abbath has been working on his sideproject, I, featuring members of ENSLAVED and SAHG, along with IMMORTAL's original drummer, Armagedda.

"I'm really proud of that album," Abbath stated enthusiastically, "and it was an important album to make in order to be able to focus on IMMORTAL again."

Watch video clips of IMMORTAL's performance at this year's Inferno Festival on YouTube. Photos of the concert can be found at the group's official web site. Other bands that performed at the event included PRIMORDIAL, ZYKLON, SUFFOCATION, MOONSPELL, BRUTAL TRUTH, DARK FUNERAL, TIAMAT, and SODOM.

~ DEATH BREATH Working On Material For Next Album ~

DEATH BREATH
, the Swedish old-school death metal project featuring former ENTOMBED drummer and main songwriter Nicke Andersson (currently the frontman of his rock 'n' roll band THE HELLACOPTERS), has issued the following update:

"Now that 'Let It Stink' [EP] is out, we are working on our next album. We are thinking of recording it sometime this winter. This is the record on which we are we going to use triggered drums and write lyrics about philosophical stuff… Well, let's hope we don't do that shall we?"

DEATH BREATH
will release "Let It Stink" in the U.S. on August 7.

"Let It Stink" features four brand new songs as well as three covers by BATHORY ("Sacrifice"), G.B.H. ("Lycantrophy") and DISCHARGE ("Maimed And Slaughtered"). The CD version of "Let It Stink" contains a brand new version of the video for the song "Death Breath" as well as the original one. The vinyl version is "10 pitch-black inches," according to a posting on the group's web site.

DEATH BREATH
recently entered the Swedish "midprice chart" at position No. 3 with "Let It Stink" (Black Lodge Records). The midprice chart includes full-length albums as well those releases that are being sold as "midprice" (i.e. at a discount during a promotional campaign). Mini-albums are sold within the same price range, so they qualify for this chart as well.

DEATH BREATH
will embark on a short European tour in September/October. The group's lineup for trek, which will last no more than 10-14 days, will include REPULSION's Scott Carlson on bass. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.

Inspired by the recent resurgence in the classic old-school death metal sound and the book "Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore", DEATH BREATH is said to be "the ultimate tribute band to all that was rough, raw and wretched in extreme metal."

DEATH BREATH
last year parted ways with bassist Magnus Hedquist. The group made its live debut on October 26, 2006 at Debaser Medis in Stockholm, Sweden. The band was joined by Scott Carlson on bass and Erik Wallin (HARMS WAY, MERCILESS) on second guitar. A short video clip of DEATH BREATH's performance has been posted online at YouTube.com

~ GOREROTTED Parts Ways With Guitarist ~

U.K. extreme metal band GOREROTTED has parted ways with guitarist Matt "Robin Pants" Hoban.

Commented Hoban: "Well, people, after six long years of hangovers and vomiting I have decided to call it a day and part ways with GOREROTTED. I wish the boys great success for the future and would like to thank everyone I ever met at shows for being cool, especially the ones that let me smoke all their weed before being told to fuck off."

The band added: "We wish Matt all the best for the future and with his new band THE AGONYST. He'll always be our bro and as he said, to us he left on a high note having just played our first-ever show on American soil. We'll play the upcoming festival shows as a four-piece until a suitable replacement is found, when we'll continue the writing of our fourth album 'Get Dead Or Die Trying'. You can catch us at the Waldrock festival in Holland, Kaltenbach in Austria and Brutal Assault in Czech Republic playing alongside such greats as TESTAMENT, MESHUGGAH, NAPALM DEATH, THE HAUNTED, MADBALL, SATYRICON, DEICIDE, and many more."

~ STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH To Release 'Rise Of The Infidels' ~

Megaforce Records and Thrash Metal/HC pioneers S.O.D. will release "Rise of the Infidels" on August 21, 2007. It is an extended EP (perhaps the longest in the music biz) with four unreleased S.O.D. songs, plus a live concert from Seattle is included.

One of the crucial bands in the musical chain linking hardcore punk with metal, the STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH - known as S.O.D. - were actually intended to be a one-off side project, done as a lark.

S.O.D. began in the mid-1980s during a break in the recording of ANTHRAX's "Spreading the Disease". What started out as a quick, satirical release for Scott Ian, Charlie Benante, Dan Lilker, and the infamous Billy Milano, S.O.D. has turned into a seminal band influencing countless hardcore, metalcore, and post-hardcore bands. Their first album, "Speak English or Die", has sold over 400,000 copies and remains an underground classic.

S.O.D. was always about brutal satire, but done with complete honesty. Anyone who has witnessed their severe, yet astonishing live show, knows that S.O.D. is like no other band on the planet.

~ New Photos Released Of Chapel Destroyed By Heavy Metal 'Satanists' ~

New photos have been released of the fire-ravaged 16th-century Chapel of the Cross at Loqueffret near the remote tip of Brittany (France), which was destroyed in a blaze this past weekend. The doors of the chapel were forced open, and several original polychrome statues were destroyed. A shadowy anti-religious group with links to heavy metal music has claimed responsibility for burning down the chapel, as well as a series of attacks on other Christian sites in Brittany in northwest France, according to Expatica.

Members of the group, which calls itself "True Armorik Black Metal", or TABM, describe themselves as "extremist and anti-ecclesiastical" in a letter sent to local newspaper the Telegramme, which published excerpts on Thursday.

"We are going to strike again, again and again," warned the letter, in which the group's acronym is scrawled in blood-red letters over the image of an inverted Christian cross.

Police, who are hunting a group of Satanists they believe responsible for the attacks, said they were taking the letter seriously and had sent it for analysis by a specialised unit.

Graffiti of the letters ABM was found at nine Christian sites desecrated in recent weeks. Police believe the letters signify Aryan Black Metal, a Satanist movement which has links to heavy metal music, paganism and far-right politics.

Eight other Christian shrines - six roadside granite crosses and two fountains - were torn down or smashed last month in an area of the Finistere department near the popular holiday resorts of Benodet and Concarneau.
